FAQs

Visiting us

Where are you?
Shop 3, 23 Barangaroo Avenue, Barangaroo NSW 2000, on the waterfront promenade. We're a few minutes' walk from Wynyard Station, the Barangaroo ferry wharf and the Wynyard Walk tunnel.

What are your hours?
7am to 5pm, seven days a week.

When should I come if I want the full range?
Mornings. We bake in batches through the day rather than all at once, but the counter is at its fullest before the 8–9am rush and again mid-morning. Popular lines sell out, if there's something you particularly want, order ahead.

Do you take bookings?
Seating is walk-in only.

Is there parking?
Paid parking is available in the Barangaroo public car park, entry from Hickson Road. Honestly, the ferry or metro is easier.

Are you the same Sweet Belém as Petersham?
Yes. We started in Petersham in the heart of Sydney's Portuguese community and have been baking there since 2003. Barangaroo is our waterfront home. Same recipes, same hands, a different room.

Ordering and collection

How do online orders work?
Choose your items and pack sizes, pay online, then collect from our Barangaroo counter. You'll get an emailed confirmation with an order number, show it to us when you arrive.

Do you deliver?
Online orders are collection only from Barangaroo. For same-day delivery around the CBD you'll find us on the major delivery apps.

How much notice do you need?
Pastries, natas, donuts and tarts can usually be ordered ahead for the same day where stock allows. Large cakes need 24 hours' notice, they're made to order and ready for collection the following day. Catering and platters need 48 hours.

Why do large cakes need 24 hours?
Because we don't hold them in a fridge waiting for a buyer. Every large cake is assembled the day it's collected, so the cream is fresh and the pastry is crisp. The wait is the reason it tastes the way it does.

Can I change or cancel an order?
Email us as early as you can with your order number. We can usually adjust or cancel before production starts. Once a made-to-order cake or catering order is underway we can't refund it.

How long will you hold my order?
Until close on your collection day. If you can't make it, tell us, we'd rather move the date than see it wasted.

What pack sizes do you offer?
Most signature items come as singles or in packs. Pastéis de nata, for example, are available singly or in packs of 2, 4, 6 and 12. Pack options and pricing are shown on each product page.

Office and event catering

Do you cater for offices?
Yes, this is a big part of what we do at Barangaroo. Morning teas, board meetings, client presentations, launches and team celebrations across the precinct and the wider CBD. Mini tart and donut ranges, savoury selections and pastry platters.

How do I order catering?
Catering isn't ordered through the site. Have a look at our catering page for the range, then email us with your date, headcount and budget and we'll build something to suit.

How far ahead should I book?
48 hours minimum. For larger events, or anything over the holiday period, the earlier the better, December books out.

Can you deliver catering to my office?
Tell us your building and floor when you enquire. We'll confirm what we can do for your address and timing.

Do you do standing weekly orders?
Yes, a number of Barangaroo offices have a recurring order for the same morning each week. Email us and we'll set it up.

Can you cater for dietary requirements?
We can build platters around vegan and gluten-free guests. Give us the numbers and requirements up front and we'll be straight with you about what we can and can't guarantee.

Our pastries

What makes your pastel de nata different?
Two things. The pastry is laminated by hand and baked hot and fast, so it shatters rather than bends, we use the highest quality ingridents such as free-range eggs, real lemon bean, butter not margarine. And we finish with cinnamon, softer, sweeter and more floral than most kitchens use. It costs more. It's worth it.

When are they at their best?
Within a few hours of the oven, still faintly warm. Because we bake in batches through the day, there's rarely a bad time to walk in.

How do I store and reheat them?
Eat them the day you buy them if you can. Otherwise keep them airtight at room temperature overnight, not the fridge, which softens the pastry. To bring one back, 4–5 minutes at 180°C. Never the microwave.

Can I freeze them?
Yes, for up to a month. Freeze flat in a single layer, then reheat from frozen at 180°C for 8–10 minutes. Not quite day one, but very good.

Do you have vegan or gluten-free options?
We do, including a vegan pastel de nata and a flourless nata, plus rotating items like pistachio and raspberry, and orange, almond and pistachio. The range moves with the seasons, so ask at the counter for what's on today.

Where do I find ingredients and allergens?
Listed on every product page. All of our products may contain traces of nuts and sesame. If you have a specific question, email before ordering and we'll answer it properly.

Do you make custom cakes?
Our large cake range is fixed, but we can add a written message and talk through decoration for celebrations. Email us with the occasion, date and numbers.

Coffee and drinks

Whose coffee do you serve?
Reformatory Caffeine Lab, a Sydney roaster whose approach to sourcing matches how we think about pastry. Full milk range, alternative milks available.

Do you do takeaway cups and keep cups?
Yes to both, and we'll happily fill your own cup.

Everything else

Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, available in store. Email us if you'd like one arranged as a gift.

Are you hiring?
We're always glad to hear from people who care about this work. Send a CV and a short note to barangaroo@sweetbelem.com.

Something wasn't right with my order.
Tell us. Email with your order number and what happened and we'll make it right, we'd rather know.

How do I hear about new releases?
Seasonal specials and one-day bakes go up on Instagram, @sweetbelem. They tend not to last the day.
